director of studies / teacher trainer From a small town in England, she has over 10 years of professional experience teaching a wide variety of nationalities including Nepalese, Chinese, Saudi Arabian, Brazilian and beyond! Chloe's first ESL job was to teenagers in Rouen, France. After completing a Masters in 18th century English Literature at York University, UK, Chloe moved to Greece for 18 months, where she was the only native English teacher at a local Frontesterio. She taught everything from TOEFL and IELTS prep to English for Business and Medicine. Before coming to Myanmar, Chloe was teaching at the university level in Ohio, USA. While in America, Chloe also trained over 40 new ESL teachers alongside her regular day job. Chloe is excited to put her experience to good use and help local communities increase the quality of English Language teaching for a new generation! |

2015 She is a current Master's student in International Educational Development, with a focus on Bilingual/Bicultural Education, at Teachers College Columbia University. Previously Cassondra was a Fulbright instructor and English curriculum developer in Turkey for two years and has served as an ESL instructor, grant writer, and researcher in various other contexts in Washington, D.C, New York City, and abroad. Her interests are in developing culturally-aware language instruction for linguistically diverse communities and in advancing empowerment through literacy and multi-literacies at the grassroots level. paula osborn
2014 She is a third year dual master's student in Public Policy and Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies at the University of Michigan. Prior to graduate school, she was a Youth Development Volunteer for Peace Corps, working in a K-12 school in a small, rural village in Ukraine for two years. Last summer Paula interned in the economic section of the US Embassy in Ukraine, working as the acting officer on Environment, Science, Technology and Health issues. At University of Michigan, she is a graduate student instructor for undergraduate classes and is co-chair of a mentoring organization for disadvantaged children in Ann Arbor. Paula focuses on the development of youth and education practices in transitioning countries. She holds B.A. degrees in Psychology and Spanish from Johns Hopkins University. |

2014 Her passion for language and cultures has led her to study in France, the Dominican Republic, and now to work in Myanmar. Sessie's interest in Myanmar began when she visited in March 2014 on a research trip to study ethnic reconciliation and economic development. She joins NEH through a partnership with the University of Michigan's Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy, where she is pursuing a Masters in Public Policy with a focus on conflict. She has a B.A. in Mathematics and a minor in Studio Art from Kalamazoo College. |

He is the author of The Limits of Alignment: Southeast Asia and the Great Powers since 1975 (Georgetown University Press, 2010) and co-author with Anne Heindel of Hybrid Justice: The Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (University of Michigan Press, forthcoming 2013). He is also an associate fellow at the Asia Society, a term member of the Council on Foreign Relations, and a senior legal advisor to the Documentation Center of Cambodia, which promotes historical memory and justice for the atrocities of the Pol Pot regime. He has been a postdoctoral fellow at Stanford University, an official at the U.S. Treasury Department’s Office of International Affairs, and a lawyer at the firm of Davis Polk & Wardwell. Director Early College Alliance Eastern Michigan University He has extensive experience designing and developing Early / Middle college programs. He developed the Washtenaw Technical Middle College at Washtenaw Community and served as the principal/dean until 2006 when he left to design and implement the Early College Alliance at Eastern Michigan University (ECA @ EMU). In addition to his current work as the director of the ECA @ EMU, he also serves as the director of Educational Options for the Washtenaw Intermediate School district. In 2005 he founded the consulting firm Middle College Consultants (MCC). He currently serves as the President of MCC which specializes in the design and implementation of Early/Middle college programs across Michigan and Alaska. He is responsible for over 70 staff members engaged in a variety of humanitarian causes, including youth leadership training, managing preschool centers, and overseeing a program to install hand pump tube wells and hygienic latrines in villages in Myanmar (Burma). He has been working with the YMCA for 22 years. |
